It is that time of year for me. The car insurance, contents insurance, MOT, etc. all land on the doorstep at the same time. I shopped around for my car insurance and chopped it down from £298 to £220 for the same deal. The car insurance moved from The Post Office to Yes Insurance.
My contents insurance is with Direct Line, but calling them and politely saying I wasn't happy with the renewal figure, resulted in £35 off the renewal!
When it came to insurance comparison web sites, Compare The Market was around £10 to £20 cheaper than Go Compare. Go figure!
Going with "Compare The Market" resulted in more savings than calling the companies for a direct quote. Direct Line, despite having no middlemen, just couldn't match the competition. Even with a 10% discount, (because my contents insurance is with them) their car insurance was more expensive than Marks and Spencer!!!
It was straightforward to compare meerkats to get the initial quotation and then telephone Yes to discuss the quote and iron out the specialist details, like needing to carry oxygen if I become a Community First Responder. That way, the discount applies, which wouldn't be the case if I called Yes directly for the quote.
